In March 2011 my wife bought a couple small turtles from a guy at the local flea market. They came in a small plastic aquarium and she wanted something a little larger for them. A couple of weeks later she found a used 30 gallon aquarium, some fish, filters, aerators, etc online for $50:
One problem she faced was where to put them. She decided her office in the house would be a good place but she needed some sort of cabinet to hold the tank. She looked at some local pet stores but didn't like any of the ones that were available. I told here I could make one for her. The next day I went to the scrap yard and bought some "irregular" 1/4" x 1 1/4" angle iron:
The angle iron was pretty rusty but I hit it with a wire brush and it cleaned right up:
I made two 28" x 16" boxes:
I then welded 36" legs to them:
We painted the angle iron with brownish textured rattle can spray paint:
We laid two pieces of 3/4" plywood in the boxes for shelves. This will give the goldfish a place to live as well:
The turtles seem happy:
After a year we found a new contoured fish tank on Craigslist:
